National Symphony comes to Fargo
I was caught off guard today when I went to grab lunch at US Bank Plaza (Metro grills burgers on Thursdays, and it is usually nice to eat outside and people watch; windy, but nice). A friendly lady in her mid-50s asked to join me along with a few of her friends. The four of them joined me. The man to my right told me that they were from Washington, D.C., and were members of the National Symphony Orchestra; here as part of the NSO’s 2003 American Residency in North Dakota.
They started discussing with me their various adventures in the state over the past few weeks, the vast amount of open space in the state, and how a few of them took a plane trip around Minnesota lakes country (Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls specifically) yesterday that included a stop at Mable Murphy’s in Fergus (they ate so much, they weren’t sure if getting back on the plane was a good idea!).
The first lady asked where they could find these chocolate-covered potato chips they had heard of. I pointed them toward Widman’s, and told them the official name for the famous Fargo treat was “Chippers.”
Before we parted ways, I made sure to find out where and when their Fargo performance was taking place. It isn’t everyday that you get to have lunch with talented national performers in Fargo.
