Apple User Interface History
The Register has a great interview with Gitta Salomon, formerly of Apple’s Human Interface Design group (circa 1993), discussing “Piles” a concept she apparently helped develop, among other things.
Failures are less expensive at the R&D stage. It’s not a failed project if the outcome is not productizable. You have gained some good learning.
