New iBooks fail to break 1GHz

Even though G3 chips over 1GHz are most likely available, the new iBooks jump 100MHz to 900MHz so as not to have the same speed as those “super-speedy” PowerBook G4s. Still, since they are at the same price points as the previous models, they’re not a bad deal for a basic portable — if you need power or a second non-mirrored display, pick yourself up a 12” PowerBook G4.

My next Mac will most likely be the next revision of Apple’s 15” PowerBook; just the right size with plenty of power. The 17” PowerBooks are just too big to be truly portable, and the 12” PowerBook is pretty damn nice, but for most of the work I do, I would want greater than 1024x768 resolution (although it would be fine when docked with a second, larger monitor).
